What are the CEU requirements for renewal?

Effective January 1 2026
Electrical journeyman and contractors are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education every three years. 6 hours of code update and 6 hours of “other” continuing education approved by the Construction Industries Board Electrical Examiners Committee.
Electrical apprentices are required to complete 3 hours of continuing education every year.Electrical inspectors are required to complete 6 hours of continuing education every year.

I did my code update CEU last year, do I need to do the 6 hours of “other” CEU?

You must have a total of 12 hours of continuing education to renew beginning January 1of 2026. 6 hours of a code update and 6 hours from the “other” classification. If you have completed 6 hours of a code update CEU course in the three years prior to 2026 you will still need to complete a 6 hour “other” CEU course.

What is an “other” CEU course?

“Other” CEU courses are other than code update courses, that have been approved by the CIB Electrical Examiners Committee. These courses my include:

  • electrical circuit theory and calculations

  • wiring methods

  • grounding and bonding

  • transformer and motor theory

  • electrical circuits and devices

  • control systems

  • alternative energy systems including energy storage

  • safety related to the electrical industry as defined by NFPA 70E

  • manufacturers' installation of equipment or parts

  • the Electrical License Act, the trade regulations as set forth in the act as well as the rules of the Construction Industries Board

  • other trade subject matters approved by the Electrical Committee.

I passed my electrical journeyman or contractor exam last year, do I still need 12 hours of CEUs?

If you have passed your licensing exam for electrical journeyman or electrical contractor in the previous three years you are exempt from the continuing education requirements. See Oklahoma statute 158:40-9-4(a)(5).

How do I know if I need CEUs?

If you have previously taken a course with Dandy CEU contact us and we can check our records. It is possible to contact the Construction Industries Board directly to determine your CEU requirements for renewal.

I live outside the OKC area, will you come to my city?

Our goal is to reach everyone that needs to complete a continuing education course. For a class to be viable we have a minimum number of students that must attend. If we have enough interest in a CEU class we will do our best to set one up in your city or town. Contact us today!

I am a contractor with more than 10 employees. Will you come to my shop and present a course?

Yes, we can do an on site course at your shop or office. The course can be during a regular work week or on the weekend, during business hours or after. Contact us for more details.

I am a contractor with less than 10 employees. Do you have a group discount?

Yes, we can offer a group discount for you and your employees. Contact us and let us know what your continuing education needs are.

I am a contractor with journeymen and apprentices; can I have all of my electricians complete CEUs at one time?

Yes, you can have your journeyman and apprentices in the same course. Electrical apprentices may take any 6-hour course that has been approved for journeyman and contractors. However, apprentices will only receive credit for 3 hours of CEUs.

I am an apprentice enrolled in vocational or trade school, do I need to take a CEU class for apprentices?

If you are enrolled and attending a course approved by the CIB Electrical Examiners Committee you are not required to complete the continuing education requirements.

I am an apprentice, can I take a 6 hour class for journeyman and contractors?

Yes, electrical apprentices may meet the requirements for their continuing education by taking a 6 hour course that has been approved for electrical journeyman and contractors. However, an electrical apprentice will be given credit for 3 hours of continuing education credit for completing the class.

Are your courses approved for electrical inspectors?

Some of our courses are approved for electrical inspectors. Courses that have been approved for inspectors will be indicated on our website. If you are an electrical inspector in need of a CEU course contact us for more information.

I hold both an inspector’s license and a journeyman/ contractor license, will your class cover CEU’s for both?

If the course has been approved by both the Electrical Examiners Committee and the Inspector Examiners Committee then, yes. If you need CEU’s for both an inspector’s license and a journeyman and contractor’s license contact us for assistance.
